Our Methods
At Apogee, how we coach is just as intentional as what we pursue. Here's what that looks like in practice every day.
INQUIRY-BASED LEARNING
We use the Depth and Complexity Framework to push learners beyond surface-level understanding. Instead of covering content, we ask learners to examine patterns, explore multiple perspectives, identify rules and exceptions, and think across disciplines. The goal is a mind that knows how to investigate — not just recall.
GOAL SETTING WITH FAMILY INPUT
Every learner sets goals with input from their family. This isn't a checkbox; it's a real conversation about where your child is, where they're headed, and what support they need to get there. Goals are revisited weekly so progress is visible, and accountability is shared.
FITNESS & PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT
Daily movement is built into our rhythm, not as a break from learning, but as part of it. We train at Alliance BJJ St. Croix on Tuesdays and Thursdays and incorporate outdoor fitness into every day. A strong, disciplined body and a focused mind develop together.
PROJECTS & COLLABORATIVE WORK
Afternoons shift to hands-on project work where learners apply what they're studying to real problems. Projects are often collaborative, require presentations, and are driven by genuine curiosity. Families see the results at our community nights throughout the year.
What We Value
Agency
Ownership: Young people at Apogee take genuine responsibility for their learning, not because someone is watching, but because they've discovered that owning your work is far more satisfying than coasting through it.
Community
Community: Families are essential partners here. We build a Studio environment where parents, coaches, and learners are all pulling in the same direction and where every child is genuinely known.
Mastery
Capability: We care about real skill, not test scores. Learners build practical competence through meaningful work, and they present proof of that growth to their families and community throughout the year.
Student Life
Days at Apogee St. Croix are structured but not rigid. There's a clear rhythm to the day; learners know what's coming, which frees them to go deep on the work in front of them. We move between independent academics, collaborative projects, fitness, and outdoor time with intention. Nothing is filler. Every block of the day has a purpose.
Growth here isn't forced or rushed. It's built through consistent daily practice, honest reflection, and the kind of coaching relationship that challenges young people to rise because someone actually believes they can.

Weekly Check-In
Every Monday, learners gather to reflect on the previous week on what they accomplished, where they struggled, and what they're committing to next. This isn't a performance. It's a practice in honest self-assessment and follow-through. Over time, it becomes one of the most powerful habits we build.
Jiu Jitsu: Tuesday & Thursday
Tuesday and Thursday mornings begin at Alliance BJJ St. Croix. Learners train at 8:00 am and carpool back to the Studio to start the day. Jiu Jitsu isn't an extracurricular; it's part of how we build discipline, resilience, and physical confidence. Getting comfortable being uncomfortable on the mat carries over into everything else we do.
Coming Soon: Light on a Hill Farm
Beginning next year, Apogee learners will have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on partnership with Light on a Hill Farm. Details coming soon.
